August Spin Camp & September Auditions

Due to our staff writing for and/or teaching numerous band camps in the area, we've had to cancel our August 2nd spin camp! It's good and bad at the same time!

However, we ARE still holding auditions in September! We hope you'll join us, as we have some GREAT news about fundraising opportunities that..let's just say could help you perform with ATX Winterguard for...very little.

Visit our website (http://ATXwinteguard.org) to fill out a contact information form. We'll add you to our mailing list where you'll receive the ATX Winterguard newsletter, which includes information we don't send out to just anybody!

Also check out our Audition FAQ page and events calendar!

Auditions Oct 12 & 19, 2008

ATX Winterguard will be holding Auditions for the 2009 cast on Sunday, October 12 from 1pm-6pm at St. Louis XIV school at 7601 Burnet Road, Austin, TX 78757, across the street from Sonic restaurant.

Auditions require a non-refundable one-time fee of $40. This money will be applied to dues if you become a member of the cast. Plan to attend both auditions.

Everyone will learn a basic movement and flag routine and be required to perform it.

What you will be expected to know:

Movement: jazz walking, jazz run, foot positions (1st-5th/6th).

Flag: One-and-one, drop spins, peggy spins, 3-count toss in different catch positions, stirs/carves/crazy-eights (right and left-handed for everything).

If you are interested in auditioning for weapon, please bring your own. We will have a limited supply available. For weapon auditions, you should be able to do the following:

Rifle: spins (right and left), a stop-and-start exercise, tosses (single-quad), flourishes (right and left)

Sabre: spins (right and left), tosses (single-quad), flourishes, blade-toss

Those interested in rifle and/or sabre will also learn a routine on weapon and be required to perform it.

We hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at ATXguard@gmail.com

Round 2 auditions will take place from 1pm-6pm on Sunday, October 19 and are scheduled to take place at Hoop Zone 826 Rutland Drive, Austin, TX 78758.

New Staff, new Tshirts, new stuff!

So the past few weeks have been very busy as we finalize several key components of our organization! We welcome 2 new staff members for ATX Independent, our competitive A class winterguard, and we also welcome 1 new staff member for ATX Stars exhibition guard! More information will be available as soon as I get bios and pictures of all the staff! I can't wait.

We've also selected a song, and begun designing floor, costumes, and flags. I've been speaking with a local screen-printer (http://chinprint.com) who will be producing our tshirts as well. Hopefully they will be done with our first batch this week so that I can have them available at Spin Camp!

Speaking of Spin Camp, it's this Saturday, Sept 27 from 1pm-6pm at Hoop Zone in Austin. Aaron and the guys at Hoop Zone (http://hoop-zone.net) have been working hard with us to help us get all the rehearsals we need scheduled there. Great people!

Don't forget, the Spin Camp is also a food drive to help benefit Austin Capitol Area Food Bank! Bring some food items and toiletries to help the people who have to deal with Hurricane Ike, as well as local people who are going through really tough times and having difficulty putting food on the table for themselves and their kids.

See you at Spin Camp! Information about Auditions will be posted on Saturday night or Sunday.
