Getting Better Every Week!

We've been doing a lot behind the scenes to make everything better-- better show, better performances, better friendships, better everything we can!

ATX entered their first "national level" competition on Saturday, Feb 21 at the WGI Austin Regional. We had high expectations for our performance, but were not sure how well we would do against a few performance groups we hadn't seen before.

The WGI regional had two rounds: Prelims, in which all guards perform, and Finals, where only the top of each class performed. Our class, Independent A, had 6 guards competing for only 3 spots in finals. Well, we managed to impress the judges enough to earn one of those top 3 finalist positions!

After getting some excellent feedback from the judges, ATX Winterguard went to a late dinner with some of our competitors: Denton Fusion from Denton, TX. They were a great bunch of people, and we all had fun hanging out at Magnolia Cafe.

Sunday rehearsal was dedicated to fixing a majority of the issues the judges raised. We still have more to fix, but great progress was made. We entered the weekend of Feb 21 by reviewing the changes, and working on basic fundamentals of performance, movement, and equipment skills.

Feb 21 saw our next competition, at Connally HS. This was a local competition, but the performers were reminded that each week we need to get better in the eyes of the judges and put on a great show for the people who had come to seen us. It was a rough show, as all the performers stated afterwards, but the judges responded positively to the potential the members had shown, and ATX Winterguard was awarded with a 2nd place finish and a score increase of 5 points from the previous weekend!

Our next performance is March 14 and 15 in Dallas, TX, at another national competition. This one will be tougher, as most of the guards in attendance are guards we have not seen before. This time we will be facing 12 guards for one of 6 finalist spots. Can we do it? Come check us out and see!

And PS-- thanks to all the support and positive comments from fans and lovers of the performing arts! We do this for you! :-)
